The District Court 1 at Adentan Fafraha in the Greater Accra Region has granted an application for substituted service in a rent-arrears case involving musician Black Sherif, known privately as Mohammed Ismail Sherif.

The case was filed by Dr. Evelyn Esi Awittor, who is seeking GH¢229,500 as alleged rent arrears relating to an Accra property. According to the claim before the court, the rent has remained unpaid since August 2024, with interest said to be accruing at the prevailing bank rate.

Because the defendant could not be personally served with the court processes, the court approved substituted service. It directed that the documents be posted at the court premises and also at the property located at House No. 4, Recreational Close, NTHC Estate, Adjiriganor, to ensure the processes are brought to his attention.

In addition to the arrears being claimed, the plaintiff is also asking the court to compel payment of monthly rent of $1,700 (cedi equivalent) until the occupant vacates the premises.

The case is expected to continue in court as the processes take effect under the substituted service order.
